Drifting
   by Nicole Gifford    author info

As they lay sleeping
Together
She wakes slightly and feels
Her breasts disengage from his back
And she hopes he doesn’t move
Because it is finally warm.
She is comforted by the sound of
The train 5 blocks away.
She is curious of the dream
That woke her
And tries to assemble
The poem that the angels
Whisper to her.
Should she reach for a pen,
She wonders briefly
As she begins to
Drift away from herself.
She thinks,
“I’ll remember that”
“I’ll remember that”
